Click to expand.Depends on how complicated you want the game to be and if you're willing to waste a lot of time on even a single campaign. If the answer is very, then I heartily suggest. Empire At War Forces Of Corruption Mods
Ground combat was iffy (greater selection of units and that's pretty much it), the last time I touched the game, but it wasn't much better in vanilla. Though, I should note that it requires Forces of Corruption. I think, it's been some time since I last touched the game and I did have the mod installed on FoC.As an interesting addition: there's several galactic maps/campaigns, ranging from individual regions to individual campaigns. And the complete galaxy, but that one's so massive some newer computers have trouble running that one. Mod's a total conversion going into the EU novels. Not the best balanced RE: Thrawn faction, (lol imba units for Thrawn instead of tactical genius lol), but it's pretty and the space action with the Rebels and Imperials is worth it. Contains multiple custom campaigns that are actually decent fun.
Mind the 'Hard' difficulty, it loves to throw impossible numbers of capital ships against you.Phoenix Rising, as linked above, is basically X-Wing Alliance in EaW form for its units and combat. Beliskner is a tad underpowered, but OH WELL they got the rest right.is a fun re-scale, where ISDs get dropped down to vanilla frigate-size and a bunch of larger units are introduced. As Frigates are the largest things with any maneuver capacity due to EaW's amusing space pathfinding, you can imagine what the baseline units become.
The mod's very, very capital ship heavy combat, and amazing fun if you love fighting with heavy metal. The Rebel and Imperial strategic AI is lamed, so when you want a fight go fight the faction which needs no tech to advance (lol Zahn). Karthar en meiparai lyrics. Corruption is much easier to fight as it lowered de-corruption to 150credits, and most heroes can do it.is basically a unit pack. Not the most balanced of mods, but it's definitely worth a twirl just from the amazing amount of flavor added.
You can get insane amounts of money by putting mines on a money planet, Coruscant gives about 8k/mine and can, alone, grant about 80k in income. Use that to play with all the units comfortably. Rebel Modified Nebulon Bs are the bread and butter imba, though their Liberator Carriers are the most insanely unbalanced unit I've ever played either for or against. They're literally win buttons in tactical battles, even when the AI is using them.Republic At War was imba crap when I played it, though very, very worthy of the TC name. They changed nearly everything in that mod, and though the balance isn't great my hat's off to their sheer work ethic.Not much else comes to mind at the moment.EDIT: For the love of god, if you download z3r0x's FoC mod, go find the Recusant/Recuscant destroyer in the game files for Zahn's faction and delete the 'all units target' ability that came from Ackbar's Cruiser. Your frame rate in fights with him will be 200% better, and both your system and precious free time will thank me.
I have no idea why that ability used by 40 ships kills frame rates so dead, so I'll just blame shitty optimizing.EDIT the SECOND: Go into your player files and change fleet battle numbers to 50pop+ apiece. The larger battles help deal with larger lategame fleets, and they are wonderful fun.
