Please if you have any questions or concerns. It's possible but I doubt it, there are so many red things in Star Wars (and even in the First Order alone) that are seemingly all red for different reasons that I'd be surprised if there was a tangible connection between these particular droids and the supposed red stormtroopers.
We've got the Imperial royal guard and the sentinel droids, both of which are seemingly red because it's Palpatine's favourite colour or something, which is also why his senatorial office is red (also apparently hearkening back to the ancient Sith). Then we've got the Praetorian Guard and Snoke's throne room, which are red because Palpatine's royal guard and office were red and Snoke is a Palpatine fanboy.
Then there's Captain Cardinal, who has red armour because. I know he was given his unique armour by the elder General Hux as a testament to his loyalty and commitment as a trooper, but I don't believe there was any intrinsic meaning behind the colour beyond it making him stand out and look cool. Then there's Major Vonreg from Resistance, who wears a red flight suit and flies a red TIE interceptor because he's a Red Baron insert (although there's probably a better in-universe reason, probably related to why Cardinal has his red armour too). Basically, if these red stormtroopers actually are red, I'd be more inclined to attribute it to red being the colour of evil in Star Wars rather than trying to connect them to any previous red stuff.
The Mark XII Sentinel Droid was a deriative of the venerable of Jedi Civil War fame. Secretly revived in 16 ABY, they began production in 17 ABY under the aegis of the company, all production secretly being diverted to the.
After the formation of the, production rights passed to, who began producing the droid for the.CharacteristicsMark XII Sentinel Droids were equipped with blaster rifles and could benefit from personal energy shields, which allowed them to move while shielded.Unlike the original droids, the Mark XII included a droid processor in order to make them autonomous.
The Sentinel Droid was designed for the purpose of maintaining security and apprehending lawbreakers. Based on ancient human replica droid technology, it was created to replace living soldiers, guards and other security personnel. The design is now antiquated and has been replaced with more capable and efficient droid designs; though at the time of production the Sentinel droid was the epitome of military droid technology.Distinctive production features of the Sentinel droid included a light blaster rifle, which it could fire with uncanny precision, enhanced optics, allowing it to identify and track enemies or criminals easily, and basic weapon skills. This combination of features allowed the Sentinel droid the capabilities to serve as front-line soldiers, bodyguards, security personnel, bounty hunters or even as assassins. Though the Sentinel droid lacks the sophisticated programming of much deadlier assassin models and the domestic capabilities of protocol droids, they could be deployed en masse to overwhelm enemies with sheer numbers.Being unique in function at the time of its release, the Sentinel line of droids created a new market for military and security forces. It made available a soldier that did not require sleep, food or training and was always on guard; basic maintenance would allow the droid a long operational life that would easily exceed the longevity of any of their organic counterparts.Nearly four millennia ago the Sentinel droid saw first widespread use when it was deployed during a time of war.
Both the Galactic Republic and the Sith used them in the capacity of front-line soldiers and the Republic would continue use them as security forces for many years after. It was considered the most advanced mass produced military model droid during this time period, but the Sentinel droid is now considered long past its prime. Most existing models can be found as deactivated exhibits in museums and personal antique collections, however they are infrequently used in an active capacity in the outlying areas of the galaxy; where modern security droids are too expensive or cannot be obtained.

In Empire's End Gallius Rax, while at the Observatory on Jakku, gets a visit from a Sentinel Droid warning of a perimeter breach.

The following paragraph describes the droid:The face of Emperor Sheev Palpatine looks back upon him. That face flickers across the glass bulge of the droid's mask. It is artifice, but even as a proxy it is close enough to the real thing to haunt him. Other sentinels were merely messengers: They appeared, gave commands, and were gone. But these, the ones reserved for Rax and their master plan, are smarter. They're sentient. Though none truly match Palpatine's strategic brilliance and his dark terrible mind, they approximate it enough.Another of these droids pilots the transport Rax, Tashu and Hux fly to the Observatory in.
All of these droids are networked together and can be used to control the Observatory's defenses. The first time we see these droids in the new EU is immediately after the Emperor's Death. One messenger begins Operation Cinder in the second Shattered Empire comic. Operation Cinder as it turns out is only a small part of the Contingency post-death plan of taking revenge on the galaxy for his death. Two issues later we see these droids being manufactured in the facility that is holding and researching the force tree branches. My question is are they connected? Why would a research facility with a core dedicated to a forceful tree also be manufacturing sentient Palpatine droids? The first ship sent to the Unknown Regions was the Emperors flagship SSD. Can we assume that atleast one of these droids is with it? Just how sentient are these droids?
We first see these droids days after the Emperor's death at Endor. Could the network they run on somehow be controlled by Palps post death? Or are they just simply droids? Could some of these droids still be working behind the scenes in the First Order enforcing Palpatine's will? The sentient versions of these droids are reserved for the contingency plan.

IE they were created solely for the event of his death. In this way they remind me of Palpatine's clone bodies from the old EU. Except now Palpatine was unable to discover the secret to immortality through the darkside so he had to create the droids. Creating artificial immortality.Furthermore how does all of this relate to? The doctor who turned himself into a cybernetic immortal system able to assume a new body after death. Could Palpatine have continued his research and found a way to preserve his soul using the tree and droids?EDIT: Fixed a link. SPOILER.
I think you are in very right path to dissolve the possible answers. In comics where Palpatine was testing Vader with Cylo's experiments he says that the technology here is much more powerful than the force, so that one days these experiments will be good enough to replace it. The story of Cylo was very interesting. He was being killed but his experience was continuosly stored and he was opening his eyes again in a different body. In here actually this idea has quite similarity with Ultron in Marvel comics. So with the comics we learn that Palpatine respects the potential of technological advancements much more than the powers force itself is able to bring.
And if Cylo a servant of Palpatine was able to do it, Palpatine must have definitely created a version of it for himself. These droids should be working on behalf of him to bring him back from dead.

We dont know how many they are but this plan is totally well-thought and inline with Palpatine's way of thinking. I like imagining droids digging sith artifacts or making negotiations to revive him again. This might be the best path Disney can follow- of course according to me only.
Well done bro. 's post is very interesting, so it's yours. But there are few things I don't get, probably becouse I haven't read Vader comics or because my English does not allow me to do better. So, I ask you both.If I understand well, Cylo only need a new body (and his technology) to implant his experience/consciousness in another being, after death. So would had Palpatine, if he wanted. Are you infering the Emperor's plane was to use the droids to find a new body, maybe in the U.R.

(and maybe that body to be same radiating the dark force he felt)? If so, where Palpatine's experience/consciousness should have been kept in the meantime?And/or do you mean the droids 'carry' his experience/consciousness? That they are sentient becouse that experience/consciouness was implanted into them? And what about the trees? If I do not consider - for a moment - Cylo, I'd say the droids were produced next to them just to be exposed to those trees and so to receive from them that kind of consciousness they seam to have.Really wish to understand better. In a sense this shows that Palpatine cheated death. These droids were most likely commanding the Eclipse out in the Unknown Regions. I'm not going to lie, normally I bash any theory that involves ol' Palpy being reincarnated because I believe it cheapens the redemption of anakin skywalker to have his betrayal of the empower ultimely be meaningless. With that said, between the OP and your post here, I am thoroughly intrigued and think you guys(or gals as it may be) are onto something here. I have not had the fortune of extra time in a busy work/family life to read all the comics, or books in the new cannon as of yet (but certainly don't mind the spoilers) so I am glad there are some of you who are able to speculate based on what you read in a way that is fun and interesting. Too many theories are based on cherry picking things and reading between the lines of what characters said.
This is all just pure factual evidence. From the beginning, I've suspected the name SNOKE is derived from a droid designation such as SN-0K3 or something. Since the droids are so mistreated by the empire and they contain such vast knowledge, it seems logical that they would rise up (as they did in Legends). Also, R2 has been the real hero of the Star Wars Universe since day 1, I think maybe GL planned it this way all along. Maybe the droids have been pulling the strings from the beginning!!!However, I've failed to find any actual hints in canon that point to this possibility until now. I knew about the red sentinels, and i knew about Cylo, but I never put them together. I'd like to look into this further.Anyone have any other ideas along these lines?.
